If the vehicle is on the road it is likely that it may meet with an unwanted accident or it maybe stolen. In order to avoid these situations, vehicle tracking is used. Vehicle tracking system has an electronic device inside the vehicle or the fleet of the vehicles. There is a computer software involved in the system which is used for the tracking the location of the vehicle and giving the information to the owner or the organization which is monitoring the fleet. Vehicle tracking systems use special software which is connected with the internet and even the electronic maps are used for tracking the vehicles. Modern vehicles are using Global Positioning System technology for locating the vehicle; some other tracking systems are also used for tracking the vehicles.

The vehicle tracking hardware is fitted on a vehicle in a way that it is not visible to anyone who is outside the vehicle. When the vehicle is stolen the location data is sent by the tracking unit and the information about the location can be given for investigating team for finding out the vehicle. This in turn saves a lot of time by tracking instead of making a call to the driver manually. Some of the tracking systems can even detect the movements which are unauthorized and alerts the owner about the wrong movement of the vehicle.
