Pillows provide comfort and support to the head or other parts of the body while sleeping on bed, sitting on chair or sofa etc. Pillows help you prevent many common problems such as back pain and neck pain. Pillows are made from different fabrics and the stuff used in these pillows can be down, feathers, cotton or any small pieces of clothes etc. The decorative pillows are referred to as cushions in United States.
There are three types of pillows available:
1) Bed pillows
2) Orthopedic pillows
3) Decorative pillows
Bed pillows are the pillows that are intended to be used for beds. The size of a bed pillow depends on the size of the bed. As we already know, beds are available in standard, twin bed, queen and king sizes.
The classical shape of a bed pillow can be a square or rectangle. The size of the standard bed pillow is (20 x 26 inches), Queen (20 x 30inches), and for the King is (20 x 36inches). These pillows are covered with removable pillow cases which facilitate laundering.
Orthopedic pillows are the ones used for positioning of the head or body while sleeping. And also it will help you get relief from the pain caused by neck and spine.
Neck pillows or cervical pillows are termed as same and helps to support the neck in alignment with the spine while sleeping by providing a deep area for the head to rest.
Travel pillows are “U” shaped pillows fitted around the neck which provides support for the neck in a sitting position and prevents head from slipping into an uncomfortable and harmful position during sleep.
Do-nut pillows are used by individuals suffering from any injury. These pillows have space in the middle to alleviate pressure on the tailbone area while sitting.
Lumbar pillows are used to support the lower back of the body while driving or sitting.
Decorative pillows are entirely different from other two pillows. These pillows are placed on sofas, wall hangings, chairs, beds etc. for interior decorating. But these pillows are never used for resting. These pillows are available in market with different sizes and shapes in different colors.
