Drug addiction is a temporary or chronic attachment to drug. This drug addiction has detrimental effects on individual and also on society. There are many types of addictions and the symptoms of these addictions are similar. Physical symptoms of the drug abuse or addiction may vary depending upon the person and the drug being abused. Drug addiction causes physical symptoms in the drug abusers and these includes:
- Person who is abusing the drugs have bloodshot eyes or pupils that are larger or smaller than usual.
- There will be changes in the sleeping patterns like sleeping during the day time and staying awake at the night time.
- If an individual is addicted to drugs he gains or looses weight suddenly.
- There will be deterioration of physical appearance and personal grooming habits.
- Unusual smells of breath, body, or clothing, tremors, slurred speech, or impaired coordination etc are also physical symptoms of the drug addiction.
- Drugs like marijuana may cause chronic cough or worsening of asthmatic conditions, cocaine increase heart rate and blood pressure, whereas opioids like heroin may slow the heart rate and reduce respiration.
- Individuals addicted to drugs lack energy and motivation.
- Diarrhea, shaking, and generally feeling awful etc are the withdrawing symptoms when a person who is physically addicted stops using drugs.
