If you are planning to have dental braces for straightening your teeth, then it is needed to know about the different types of braces. They can be used to correct tooth and jaw alignments including underbites, overbites, crossbites and crowding. Metal braces are commonly used to correct these dental problems. However, there are certain dangers associated with their use.

Jaw pains and headaches may be caused because of the metal braces. The tightening of the metal braces adds tension to the jaw, enhancing a tremendous pressure on the mouth and face. Use of these braces also initiates pain in mouth and head. Even the gums become sensitive and start bleeding and get irritated when hard or rough items are chewed.

It is difficult to clean the areas under and around the metal brackets. Food particles which get trapped in these places cannot be removed easily. This may result in plaque formation, thereby, increasing the chances of infection and tooth decay. The infection is further enhanced when you take food items which are rich in sugar. However, it is necessary to brush and floss regularly to remove the trapped food particles and avoid further decay.

Having hard food items may break the wires of metal brackets. The broken wires may poke and scrape the inside area of your mouth causing cuts and bleeding. This may delay your treatment process. In addition, at the initial stages of treatment, you may face sores inside the mouth. Hence, it is necessary to consider these dangers and know the ways of preventing them to have appropriate treatment for the right time.
