Though you find a better way of wearing braces to assure proper dental alignment, there is no other way except to bear the pain associated with it. It is really irritating at the early stages, however, you get used to it after certain period of time. The brackets and wires of the braces may hurt your mouth. The inner regions of the mouth including your inner cheeks and lips can be scraped with the projections of the braces. Dental wax is the best solution to avoid this problem. A dental wax is usually made of paraffin, carnauba or beeswax. It is, however, non-toxic and safe to use. But, you should know how to properly use dental wax for braces.
Ensure that your mouth is clean without any trapped food particles. Also, clean your hands to avoid any infections. Then, tear or break the dental wax as small bits. Avoid pulling the wax as it may get stretched making it difficult to shape. Once you tear the wax, mold it properly to a spherical shape. As the wax has a low melting point, it can be easily shaped with the warmth of your hands.
After shaping it, apply carefully over the problematic areas. While applying, just push it onto the exact location to ensure it is fixed firmly. However, remember not to push it into the area between the teeth and braces. It may be painful even to speak when you apply dental wax. The wax may even get lost when eating. Don’t get worried if you swallow the wax as it not harmful. Remove the wax before eating with your fingers or a toothbrush. After removal, clean your mouth again to reapply after eating. Applying dental wax is considered during the early stages of braces application. However, later there might not be a need to use the wax.
