Regular oral hygienic practices are essential to maintain the oral health. Brushing and flossing are the common things required for one and all. Well, let’s know here about dental flossing and its benefits.
A dental floss, supported by plastic wands, aids in flossing. It removes the food particles that are trapped between teeth. The tight contact between the two adjacent teeth does not allow a toothbrush to take away the trapped materials. However, a floss can reach easily to the space and removes them. So, it is considered as an inter-dental cleaner. With the support of the wands, the floss is bent between the teeth and moved up and down to remove the retained particle. If the trapped material is not removed, you may often sense it with your tongue to get rid of it which may result in causing a sore on the tongue. So, a dental floss can avoid such issues and provides comfort.
Also, trapped food particles between teeth may promote growth of bacteria. Bacterial infections may in turn result in tooth decay, cavity formation, and tooth loss. Also, these infections may promote gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis. However, regular flossing prevents all these dental problems.
Flossing also avoids bad breath that is associated with dental plaque deposited between the teeth. Apart from the plaque, other articles trapped between the teeth may be responsible for bad breath like a smell of a rotten egg or sweat, which is difficult to bear. Flossing after each meal is, therefore, recommended to avoid bad breath, dental cavities, and gum problems.
