Computer Aided Facility Management(CAFM) is defined as the support for facility management with the use of information technology. The focus is on the supply of information about the facilities. The different tools for CAFM are called as CAFM software, CAFM applications or CAFM systems.
International Facility Management Association (IFMA) defines facility management as the process of maintaining a coordination with the people of the workplace and work in the organization.
Computer Aided Facility Management(CAFM) has evolved during the late 1980s which helped to automate the maintenance and collection of facilities management information in a PC. CAFM have some facility responsibilities that are classified by IFMA – New construction and renovation of buildings, architectural planning and design, real estate acquisition, lease management, strategic planning, space planning.
CAFM system provides facility manager to track and store facilities information with the help of tools about organization’s people, places and physical assets. The CAFM systems track and maintain facilities information such as floor plan, telecom information, assets at workplace, space, site characteristics and usage etc.
CAFM systems have delivered benefits that are often important for an organization, and there is an increased growth in their use, it has the ability to provide information beyond facility management.
