It is found that even fine dental issues create problems in future. One of the common and simple dental issues is white scars on teeth. It is often seen with the loss of calcium from the teeth. The scars are milky white or brown or yellow in color. The scars may be formed in different patterns. Sometimes, it may be a series of chalky white squares. Occurrence of white scars on permanent molars and the front teeth interfere with the dental aesthetic concerns. Various factors attribute to the formation of white scars or spots on teeth.

As said, the white scars appear on the teeth due to calcium loss. The calcium on teeth may be lost upon interaction with acid which is formed when bits of food come into contact with bacteria. Improper dental hygiene is found to cause decalcification (white scars) more commonly.

However, having braces for a long time is the other major factor which creates white spots on teeth. This is because, food particles and plaque get deposited in the mouth of the brace-wearer. It becomes more problematic and the plaque acid damages the tooth enamel. Even cavities may be formed. The appearance of the white spots indicates the decay of tooth in future. Once the cavities are formed, the white spots get converted to dark lesions. Sometimes, irrespective of the usage of braces, white scars are formed on gumline. The decalcification also leads to other problems like gingivitis and periodontitis.

The spots are often seen in children. It is known that kids are given certain fluoride supplements for dental health. However, too much exposure to fluoride even develops white spots. Care should be taken to avoid or treat the spots to prevent other dental issues.
