Blood circulation is the key to the well functioning of the entire body system. A tiny block or an obstruction in the blood flow may result in serious health problems. Continuous flow of pure blood from heart to the different body parts and impure blood from all the body parts to the blood is essential to make all the organs active and to do their respective job. It is strongly believed that one of the ancient exercises popularly called as yoga is found effective to improve the blood circulation and the functioning of blood cells.
Let us see how breathing techniques improves the blood flow. Deep breath increases the pressure in the diaphragm whereas decreases the pressure in the chest. This causes compression of the veins in the diaphragm which pushes the blood towards the heart. Now the pressure in the diaphragm gets reduced which causes the blood from both the legs to be pulled towards abdomen. And in the next step the blood collected at the abdomen reaches the heart and the cycle continues. This way deep breathing and regular practice enhances and improves the blood return to the heart.
Next yogic exercise to talk about are the inverted poses. All the day we are in a constant position like either sitting or standing. This makes the blood accumulate at the lower parts of the body. Moreover, the distance between the heart and the lower parts like legs is greater than any other part and hence it becomes difficult for the venous return. The inversion poses in yoga which include inverting the whole body by placing out legs up and the head down helps the blood to flow to the heart more frequently with out any interruptions. This also prevents the accumulation of bad cholesterol and thus prevents the thickening of blood vessels.
