To avoid costlier repairs, repairing any part of the home in a timely manner is important. Repairing bathrooms involves part of repair work because most bathroom contain at least one area where tiles are not properly fixed on the walls or on the floors of the bathroom. This allow the water to get into walls and damage the remaining part of the bathroom.
If no tiles are broken or cracked or chipped, but they are properly fixed and are faded because of long usage and you want to repair it to enhance the appearance of your bathroom, you need a bathroom tile which should exactly match the existing tiles in the bathroom, otherwise it looks odd. So, you should always buy some extra tiles for repair from now on (if needed).
Following are steps to remove and repair bathroom tiles:
- Remove the damaged or faded tiles with the adhesive that is cement that has been used under the tiles. In order to remove this, you may have to break the tile into small pieces and remove it. The problem is you may end up breaking some of the adjoining tiles.
- Using some tools, remove the grout around the damaged tile(s). Take caution so that you do not cut any waterproofing material beneath.
- Another method to remove the tiles easily is by drilling lightly on the tool. Once you removed the tile, clean the adhesive which is present under the tiles in order to install the replacement tile on a clean surface.
- Before proceeding to start further process, ensure that you do not get any waterproof membrane damaged. In that case, you have to repair the rubber or vinyl membranes to ensure there is not a leak in the tiles beneath you are going to replace.
- If the work smaller repairs, use a small knife to apply the thin set adhesive tile cement underneath the replacement tile area.
- Then push the replacement tile on that area and make sure that the joints around the tile are uniform, and the surface of the newly installed tile are flush with the surrounding tiles.
- Then let it dry for a day and then put the sealant or caulk to repair any joints.
