Stimulants are the drugs which give energy (stimulates) and improve both the mental and the physical operations of the body. They are generally injected and some are even swallowed in to the body. They improve alertness, wakefulness and even the energy levels are being increased. So, they are called as uppers because they are improving or making up the quality levels.

Generally in the case of medicines these are used for increasing the heart rate, breathing rate, even for improving the brain functions. Separate stimulants can be used for affecting or improving the function of each and every part. Prescription stimulants are being used for treating asthma, obesity and for treating neurological disorders.

This is affectively used for increasing the concentration of the child and also improves the activity levels. If the stimulant medication is suggested by the specialists then it should be continued for several years. Some may be suggested for using till the age of teenage and some may be suggested to use till they become adults.

In the case of non medical or illegal usage of stimulants they have a lot of side affects which affect brain and the body functions. Generally these types are being consumed for increasing their energy levels instantly and are mostly used in sportsfor increasing the physical fitness.

The dosage also plays a major role in affecting the body performance. Increase in the dosage levels may cause euphoria and causes irregular heart beat and in some cases it can even lead to heart attack.
