Know About Workplace Issues by Use of Marijuana

Drug testing at workplaces has become common these days. This is conducted to detect drug abused employees. Marijuana is considered as the most popular illegal drug that is used by employees. Marijuana has many effects on employees at workplaces.

Usage of marijuana may alter some of the conditions of employees. These include attention, memory, and learning; psychomotor skills; motivation; and finally job performance. Marijuana consumption at workplace may result in regular absenteeism, less job satisfaction, decrease in productivity, and others. All these are the consequences of the physical and mental effects of the drug on the individual. The number of hours worked by the employees, their wages, and labor force participation are also found to be decreased among marijuana users at workplaces.

It is also found that most marijuana users have criminal records. As the nature of the person is disturbed by the use of drug, he cannot control emotions and anger. This may result in crime and destruction situations. In order to avoid these situations at workplaces, THC drug test is conducted. Drug testing for marijuana can be done by urine, blood, hair and saliva tests.

An employee has to put mental and physical effort at work. Marijuana has many adverse effects on physical and mental system of the body. So, the marijuana consumed employee cannot concentrate on work. This may result the work performance of the employee. Hence it is necessary to prevent such conditions by conducting employment drug tests.

At certain organizations such as Department of Transportation and other security-related positions, marijuana drug testing is made mandatory. Several fitness-for-duty concerns are caused due to marijuana usage.
