Database is the collection of information. As the data is organized and stored, a business can retrieve large amounts of data easily from the database whenever required. Database can be classified in to many types based on different criteria.
Following are the types of databases:
Analytical Database:
Analysts may create separate database for online analytical processing. For example, a company might extract costs of inputs for the effective use of resources in the manufacturing process.
Distributed Database:
This is database of the local work groups and departments at regional offices, branch offices, manufacturing plants and other work sites. This database enables exchange of data between a branch office and head office or with in the branch office.
External Database:
This database is collected for the use of the data by different organizations who are business partners. Eg: Internet movie database.
Operational Database:
These databases are used to store information about the operations of the business and almost all organizations uses this type of database. For example, business uses enterprise resource planning that record details about product components, parts inventory. And other database such as, financial databases help to keep track of the organization’s money, accounting and financial dealings.
End User Database:
This databases consists of data gathered by the individual end users. Examples of these type of databases are, collections of documents in spreadsheets, word processing and downloaded files.
Hypermedia Database:
World Wide Web can be used as a database. Web browsers can process this data one page at a time.
